Is Raspberry Ketone Safe for You to Take for Weight Loss?

dsc07881 300x225 Is Raspberry Ketone SafeMany people wonder, “Is raspberry ketone safe?” They’ve heard a lot of horror stories about weight loss products like ephedra, so they fear for their health and safety when they take supplements that they know little about.

Well, good for you for being smart enough to learn more about the raspberry ketone supplement! You’ll find that it’s one of the safest supplements around, and it will help you to lose weight effectively. But don’t take my word for it – let’s see what WebMD has to say about it!

Is Raspberry Ketone Safe: The Official Word

All of the information below is taken directly from WebMD. You can visit the page on Raspberry ketone to see it for yourself, and you’ll see that it’s a fairly safe supplement – even according to this official medical website.

Overview – On the first tab of the raspberry ketone page, WebMD provides some basic information on the supplement. It states that it’s a chemical that is derived from raspberries, and it immediately says that it’s used for obesity and weight loss. It helps to boost lean body mass, and it has even been used as a means of stimulating the growth of hair.

Of course, it has to mention the Dr. Oz episode on the product, as that’s what put the raspberry ketone supplement on the map. It does finish by saying that there have been no tests done on humans, and thus there is no “reliable scientific evidence” to back up the claims. This means that the testing hasn’t followed the strict protocols for accepted testing in the scientific community, not that there has been no testing done. While the tests were all done on animals, you’ll see that WebMD clearly states that there is a chance that it can increase the metabolism and adiponectin production. This is as close to “high praise” as it gets on WebMD.

Uses – Now, when you click on the “Uses” tab, you’ll see that there are only a few uses listed there:

  • Weight loss
  • Obesity
  • Increasing your lean body mass
  • Treating alopecia (hair loss)

You’ll see that it says “Insufficient Evidence for” on the page. That just means that there isn’t the “reliable scientific evidence” demanded by WebMD’s high standards to back up these claims. However, the fact that they’re listed there means that they are likely real – just lacking the evidence.

Side Effects – On the “Side Effects” tab, you’ll notice the disclaimer saying that there isn’t enough scientific evidence to prove or disprove the claim that ketones are safe for humans to take (no testing on humans, just animals). It does mention the relation of the ketones to a stimulant known as synephrine. This stimulant has been known to cause the jitters, rapid heart beats, and an increase in your blood pressure. Some people have reported similar side effects when taking the ketone supplement, so it’s important that you know that there are some side effects.

Of course, you have the typical disclaimer that “you should never take this supplement if you are pregnant or breast-feeding”. There are very few supplements that you actually are recommended to take while pregnant or nursing, as most supplements contain nutrients that could negatively affect the child. However, you’ll notice that it mentions that there isn’t enough evidence to accurately predict how the ketones work on the baby, so it’s just best to stay on the safe side. This is the case with just about every supplement  on the planet, so it’s not an indication that the ketones are dangerous.

Interactions – The next tab is the “Interactions” tab, which is where WebMD tells you if the supplement is dangerous when taken in tandem with medications or other supplements. You’ll see that there is no information available on the interactions, which is actually a good thing. While there are no studies to provide “reliable scientific evidence”, WebMD would list any serious negative interactions if there were any. This means you can be pretty sure that it’s safe to take the raspberry ketone supplement, no matter what else you’re taking.

Dosing — The final tab is the “Dosing” tab, which usually talks about how much you should be taking in order to be safe. The page does highlight how important it is to take the correct dosage for your age, health, weight, and other important factors, as taking too much of any supplement – even a safe one – can be dangerous. It also mentions that just because it’s natural, that doesn’t mean it’s safe. That much is true, as even natural supplements like the raspberry ketones can have negative reactions. Many people will be allergic to the raspberry ketone thanks to their berry allergy, and it can have negative reactions in the body. Its being natural doesn’t make it 100% guaranteed to be safe, so you have to be sure you’re taking it safely.

Is Raspberry Ketone Safe: Our Opinion

What do we at Healthier Post think about the question, “Is raspberry ketone safe?” Well, we’ve looked at the information presented by WebMD – as well as other official websites – and we’ve taken the supplement ourselves to see if it works. For those of us that have tried it, at least, we’ve found that yes, raspberry ketone supplements are safe.

Of course, you need to take the right one in order to be sure that you’re not going to harm your body. Some supplements are just raspberry flavored, when in reality they are a concoction of chemicals that won’t really help you lose weight. We tried the Healthier Brands supplement, and the fact that it worked is the reason that we promote it in the Healthier Post store. However, it’s up to you try it for yourself, to see if it actually is safe. Perhaps it will affect you negatively, which would be a shame. However, those of us that have tried it can answer “Yes!” to the question “Is raspberry ketone safe?”
